Happy 18th birthday, UP ALCHEMES!

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to be myself
with reckless abandon
without a hint of apology

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to raise my voice
with verses that run more smoothly
than the most eloquent of sonnets

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to lose myself
with the music wrapping itself
around me like a warm blanket

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to express myself
with words that form a tapestry
of stories i’ve woven by bare hand

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to move
with my body stretching
the same way my lungs expand in each breath

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a place
where i can dare to be myself
with reckless abandon
without a hint of apology
how can this not be home

where do i go now
if home is meant to be found in people
who radiate warmth
with their smiles and in their eyes
and through their love
how can this not be home

where do i go now
if home is meant to be a feeling
shared among people
people who broke out of different seeds
but continue to grow in the same garden
how can ALCHEMES not be home

If home is

This is a little poem that I wrote for the 18th anniversary of my first student organization (and arguably, my first college love). The UP Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students (UP ALCHEMES) has been a second home to me ever since my first semester as a college freshman.

Happy 18th birthday, UP ALCHEMES!

P.S. Please do take the time to watch the video and to give it a thumbs up on YouTube!
