Poetic Attempt || Five

[ o n e ]
It amuses me how
you think of me as a lake
but i am an underground stream
and i span for miles
beyond your line of sight
you think of me as
something meant
to be contained
(trapped, really)
within the confines of a dam
a fortress built
by the labor of your hands
and strengthened
by the iron of your will
and yet the height of these walls
anger you
simply because
the barriers are taller
than the grandest of skyscrapers
so much so
that even you
(especially you)
are incapable of
overcoming them

[ t w o ]
It amuses me how
you think of me as rainwater
meant to kiss your earth
to nourish your garden
to wash away the dirt
underneath your fingernails
you think of me as
something meant
to sustain you
which is why
you pray for more
(demand for more, really)
but i am not rainwater
i am not meant to part with the sky
i am the blood that flows
throughout my very being
and the more blood
spills from my scarred skin
to stain your precious earth
the more i die
(at the expense of)
for the sake of
satisfying you
